In the US alone, there are approximately 6 million people suffering from panic attacks annually. This translates to about 2.7 percent of the entire US adult population.
Panic attacks are very powerful episodes that can completely overwhelm the mind and body with extreme fear and terror. Sufferers want nothing more than to be able to ereadicate their attacks and the symptoms that accompany them.
I have done a quick summary of the good and bad points of the most popular treatment methods for panic attacks.
RELAXERS: Examples of relaxers include Meditation, Hypnosis, Muscle Relaxation, Deep Breathing and Guided Imagery (the use of a CD to help relax you and enable you to envision scenes in fine details.)
There is not much training or studying involved in thes activities. There are countless articles on the web explaining exactly how these methods are used.Barring the hiring of a personal coach, the costs are little to none. As these remedies do not involve the use of medicines, you do not have any of the risks associated with medication.. The main problem with this category is the very low success rate. Helping to relax you is very nice, but it is a long way from curing your panic attacks. Additionally, it is no easy task to be able to concentrate on breathing exercises or muscle relaxation right in the middle of a panic attack. The heart races and the person pants.Since deep breathing reduces oxygen levels in your blood while it increases carbon dioxide levels, the deep breathing method can actually worsen panic attacks. .
BODY ACTION: Exercise,Yoga, Pilates
These exercises are good fr you in that they get you in shape physically, leading to many positive benefits. However, similair to relaxers, they are not known as being solid cures or effective treatment for panic attacks..A strong benefit is that these exercises do not carry the risk of serious side effects that medication does.
MIND ACTION: Therapy, Counseling, Support Groups for for Treating Panic Attacks
Therapy can work and can be an effective cure for panic attacks. The key word though is CAN. With therapy the costs can be prohibitive and it can be months or year before you start to see results. Simply hitting on a therapist that works well for you can be a very time consuming job, sometimes requiring testing out multiple therapists before finding the right one. . Time is a problem when you are being charged $200-400 an hour for therapy sessions.
MEDS: Medication for Treating Panic Attacks (Examples; Xanax, Prozac, Paxil, Valium, Zoloft)
The time to try medication is only after you have used all other methods and remedies without success. While medication does have good success rates and can keep panic attacks under control, there are a myriad of serious drawbacks.Similiar to therapy, its a lot of trial and error when it comes to finding a medication that reacts well with your body. Besides being possibly addictive, medications must be take continously, not simply when you are having a panic attack. The main problem with medications is the risk of serious side effects commonly associated with the medication used to treat panic attacks. These include, drowsiness, poor concentration, and irritability, increased aggressiveness violent behavior, depression personality changes, hallucinations, memory and cognitive impairment chronic depression, personality changes, and more.
METHODS: Methods & Strategies Programs for for Treating Panic Attacks
Based on my experience this is the way to go as a first option because they are low risk, high reward. What makes me such a proponent of these methods is that they actually work when it comes to eradicating panic attacks. There are a few select methods on the market with great success rates at curing panic attacks, while most other methods are not worthy of your time.A key advantage of method related products is the low cost and short lenght of time they require to work. An additional benefit is the absence of any risks or harmful side effects. The one method I highly reccomend is the Linden Method, a method designed by a former panic attack sufferer and one that has been used succesfully by over 100,000 people.. Feel free to follow the link for more details on the Linden Method for
treating panic attacksNATURE'S REMEDIES: Homeopathic Remedies for Treating Panic Attacks
Natural remedies are good for people who do not want to worry about any potential harmful side effects. The only things you have to lose are time and money! I am quite a skeptic when it comes to natural remedies, as the success rates are not published and there is ample opportunity for fraud.
